Weather and accessibility:

The weather in Choroní:

Venezuela counts with different climate zones, from tropical heat in most parts, up to cold in the higher grounds, like the Andes, where you can even see snow. On this page we will concentrate on the coast, and in particular Choroní.

Venezuela has actually two seasons: Invierno (winter) and Verano (summer). With these terms the dry season and the rain season are meant.

Verano: This is the dry season, en runs from about November until April. In this period we rarely have any rainfall. In general temperatures are around 30 degrees Celsius. With a slight breeze from the sea it's very comfortable at the beach. In the evening and during the night temperatures drop a little down to about 25 degrees Celsius.

Invierno: The rain season runs from May until October. Temperatures don't differ much from the dry season. Due to the higher moisture level in the air, it feels warmer. In most parts of Venezuela it rains a lot during this season. Choroní hasn't that much rainfall, even when it rains in the nearby mountains. When it does rain, it's normally for a short time very heavy rainfall.

This is what the weather was like the last couple of days:

The road from Maracay to Choroní:

The access road from Maracay to Choroní is one of the most interesting and beautiful of Venezuela. Passing various climate zones of the Henri Pittier national park you'll reach an altitude of 1.620 metres (1000 miles). Even though the distance is relatively short (50km / 32miles), calculate an 1,5 to 2 hours for the journey. In the rain- and cloud-forests it rains frequently, and therefore sometimes the road is closed for maintenance. In these cases normally shovels are working to clean up the road as soon as possible. En general the road is clear even before you reach the affected area.

Unfortunately when the press make their announcement the next day about the road being closed, in reality by that time the road is open for all traffic.
